Peavey Rockmaster 3/4 review summary

If your little one is a superhero fan and wants to start learning the guitar, you need to look no further. This little Peavey is an ideal 1st guitar to learn on. It’s not the highest quality 3/4 scale on the market, but it is unique and good enough to learn on.

When it comes to selecting a guitar, appearance isn’t the only feature to consider but it is, without a doubt, helpful. Especially when you are looking for a kid’s guitar.

The Rockmaster from Peavy (a brand that has made a name for itself thanks to its awesome amplifiers) is a great choice of an electric guitar for young kids which can partly be credited to the officially licensed images from Marvel that embellish its body.

However, looks are one thing, quality is another. Does this instrument offers more than just the fancy looks:

Features and opinion of the Peavey Rockmaster 3/4 size electric guitar

Despite its appearance, the 3/4 scale Peavey is not a toy. It’s a solid 1st guitar, is ideal for children 9 – 13. Younger kids will find it a bit large.

It comes with numerous designs from the Marvel universe (Iron Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool), and I’ve also seen other designs, such as Star Wars, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Superman, etc.

In fact, you can even find limited edition models, which the great Stan Lee has signed by hand. These signed guitars cost a lot more than the base model though.

  • 3/4 size guitar
  • 1 humbucker
  • volume and tone knob
  • push/pull tone for single coil play
  • 21 frets
  • 22.5 scale
  • maple neck and rosewood fretboard
  • basswood body

Small body and neck

The Rockmaster features a reduced body size and measures 22.5 inches in scale length. This ensures that it is very comfortable for kids and people who have smaller hands.

The guitar is made using very standard materials and comprises a double-cutaway body made from solid basswood, as well as a bolt-on maple neck.

The body of this fun electric is printed with a cool glossy image, which will serve as a major highlight for any kid. In fact, this is the most “designer” guitar for kids I’ve ever seen.

The guitar also features a rosewood fretboard that offers a full 21 frets. All the frets are easily accessible and this is thanks to the double-cutaway shape of the instrument’s body.

It plays quite well out the box, but as you’d expect with most budget guitars, the overall playability can significantly be improved with a proper string change and set up.

Hardware

The designers at Peavy wanted to take things easy with this guitar and keep the cost down as far as the hardware is concerned.

They decided to go with only one humbucking pickup located at the bridge position. Nevertheless, with a pull/push coil-splitting feature on the knob that controls the tone, you can easily experiment using a single-coil sound too, which is a unique feature among student guitars

Apart from the multi-functional tone control, the Rockmaster also features a master volume control knob, a fixed bridge, and a set of basic diecast chrome tuners positioned on the headstock. These actually function quite well.

Sound

The sound on the Rockmaster isn’t at all that bad! In fact, it’s clear and provides more than merely an acceptable tone if played cleanly with distortion.

The single pickup, as well as limited controls, limit the level of versatility when it comes to the sound produced but do a good job of keeping things simple.

The important thing to note is that simplicity is the greatest feature for a guitar you are buying to be used by a kid who is just starting out.
