When you are not using your guitar, it is natural that you want it to either be lying nicely in a proper case or resting safely on a suitable guitar stand. We considered a broad range of guitar stands available in 2024 and below is a selection of our preferred models across various designs and price ranges.

Types of guitar stands
There are 4 types of guitar stands, here is a description of each.
Tripod guitar stands
As the name suggests, tripod style guitar stands have 3 legs. The fact that they have 3 legs makes them slightly unstable, as they can tip if nudged between legs.
Tripod stands are tubular, meaning they are made of tubes.
They usually have a dedicated neck holder, with some kind of guard mechanism in place, not letting the neck of the guitar fall out. You should only get a tripod stand if it has this feature.
A-frame guitar stands
A-frame guitar stands are popular among guitarists. They are more stable than tripod-style stands since they stand on 4 legs.
A-frame stands are also foldable, so they can be packed away if you are not using them or are on the road.
However, they do not offer a neck locking mechanism, since the stand itself only supports the body of the guitar. You lean the guitar into the stand at an angle, which results in 2 things:
- The neck of the guitar hangs behind the stand, so it cannot be placed right against a wall.
- If you bump into the guitar in the stand, you might kick it off the stand.
Some A-frame guitar stands have 2 guitar slots: one on the front as normal and also a slim one in the rear. This setup is useful for storing an acoustic and an electric guitar on the same stand.
Multi-guitar rack
If you have several guitars, a multi-guitar rack might be the right choice for you.
These guitar stands can hold several guitars at a time, which makes them great for more experienced players with a guitar collection.
There are 2 types of guitar-racks:
- Tubular multi-guitar racks that resemble tripod stands. These can usually hold 3 guitars and should be anti-tipping, so they don’t fall over when you remove a guitar.
- Larger guitar racks you might have seen on stage at concerts, which can safely hold many guitars at a time in a line. Many people like to make home-made guitar racks for their guitar collection.
Wall-mounted guitar hangers
If you want your guitars to hang on your wall, then you need a wall-mounted stand/hanger. If you have the space on your wall, wall-mounted guitar hangers look really cool and stylish. They might also protect your guitars from pets and small children.
The only downside is that you need some handyman skills to screw the stand into the wall securely. Also, it is important that your wall be able to hold the weight of the guitar. Drywall won’t do.
Once it’s up, you simply hang the guitar in the stand by its headstock. Some wall-mounted guitar holders even have a pressure-sensitive mechanical lock, which activates at the weight of the guitar.
